Welcome back to Olotita’s Yoga Asana Series on Youtube! Today is Video #20 of our Yoga Series and today is our 6th guided yoga practice video in this Yoga Asana Series. Most of the videos in this series are tutorials for you to deepen your understanding of the body mechanics of these postures, and offer you many modifications for working with the the postures that make up the Ashtanga Yoga Standing Sequence.
With this guided practice style video, you can simply follow along with the audio and video instruction to move and breathe your way through 5 Sun Salutations A, 3 Sun Salutations B, and the ENTIRE standing sequence of Ashtanga yoga – Padangusthasana, Pada Hastasana, Utthita Trikoṇāsana, Parivr̥tta Trikoṇāsana, Utthita Pārśva Koṇāsana, Parivr̥tta Pārśva Koṇāsana, Prasarita Padottanasana A-D, Pārśvottānāsana, Utthita Hasta Padāṅguṣṭhāsana, Ardha Baddha Padmottānāsana, Utkaṭāsana, Vīrabhadrāsana and modified finishing sequence.
This is a GREAT addition to your home practice aids and I hope you find it useful to refer back to often when you want a little instruction in your home based yoga practice. Follow along with it 3-6 days per week or whenever you want a little instruction, a little motivation or a little added love to your daily practice!
When working with any of these yoga postures, is imperative that you focus on deep breathing with sound, engagement of bandhas and the use of Tensegrity (refer back to Yoga Asana Series Video #1 for breathing and bandhas and Video #12 for Tensegrity). The modifications for each posture in today’s video can be found in corresponding yoga tutorial videos on each posture. While I am demonstrating the full expressions of these asanas in today’s guided practice video, I do not encourage that attempt the full expressions of these postures until you have worked your way up to it through your work with the tutorials.
I always encourage that you watch each video all the way through your first time to observe as much as you can before you attempt to practice the sequence of movements. If you’ve been following along the sequence and working each week to build up your asana practice, you should be so proud of yourself for making it this far in the video series, and in your efforts to create a home based practice for yourself. Keep showing up to your mat, keep taking this time for self care, for wholeness practices that are here to help you live your best life.
Each tutorial video is here to help you go a little deeper in your understanding of the body mechanics of the movements, and your own body in space. And each guided practice video is here for you to put all the pieces together in one flowing practice session. If you are brand new to yoga, you are at the right place!
