Located in Winter Park, FL, the Yoga Shala offers daily in-person yoga classes, and even a Monday evening class. Every student gets individualized attention at the Yoga Shala. All experience levels are welcome, including those just learning how to do yoga. With typically eight to 15 students per 90-minute class, a community quickly forms where all are welcomed, and everyone supported.
Ashtanga yoga uses a step sequence of yoga postures more than 5,000 years old. Practitioners often describe its benefits akin to plugging in a light switch. Energy flows through the body. With this sensation comes a heightened sense of self-awareness, a feeling emphasized by the practice’s focus on breathwork. For many people, practicing yoga is the only time they can truly spend with themselves.
Yoga unifies the mind, body and soul. Those who regularly practice yoga enjoy greater flexibility and cardiovascular health. Yoga is a safe, adaptable alternative to cross-fit and other strenuous workouts. It’s ideal for older students, people with physical limitations, or those with limited time to work out.
Mysore Style Ashtanga:
The Mysore teaching method at the Yoga Shala provides the opportunity to enjoy a yoga class that feels like a private yoga session in a classroom setting. Krista teaches students how to work through a set sequence of yoga postures, striving to master them over time. She knows how to modify postures for each student, helping everyone to move at their own pace.
The Mysore method allows students to arrive anytime between the start of class and 45 minutes before its end. Newer students should plan for 45 to 60 minutes. If they keep practicing – three classes a week are recommended – they will work up to the full 90 minutes. Students should wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat and hand towel. Hydrating before and after class is strongly advised.
Life After Covid-19:
The COVID-19 pandemic changed the world. People took stock of important parts of their lives – especially all aspects (mental, physical, spiritual) of their health. Yoga, with its ease of use and calming, detoxifying effects, quickly took center stage.
It’s no act, either. If you’re ready to step into a role practicing yoga, contact the Yoga Shala … and discover the centuries-old secret that can have you feeling decades younger.
